Ouya: Upcoming $99 Android game console

Looks like there will be a new entry into the console market, if these developers will have their way. Ouya is proposed to be a $99 Android game console that you can connect to a TV, and the project is being helmed by people like Ed Fries and Muffi Ghadial, who both worked on projects like the Xbox and Amazon's Kindle. The console itself is being deisgned by Yves Behar, who was also the designer for the One Laptop Per Child project.

Ouya also comes with a high-concept developer ecosystem--the underlying hardware is specified as "built to be hacked", and every customer who buys a retail box will get a free dev kit, ensuring that any developer will be able to publish games. More details should be available soon.

In a span of just 9 hours, the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for the Ouya console reached its goal of one million dollars, with more than 13,000 backers. That's good news for the developers of this project, who have promised a March 2013 release date.

Square Enix just announced that they will be porting the Android version of Final Fantasy III for the Ouya platform, and is scheduled to launch simultaneously with the console next year. Final Fantasy III will be optimized for the Ouya and will also have a free demo; Square also said that it's looking into offering download content for the platform.

...should be easy enough to do, as the game already exists--all Square has to do is remove the touch controls and optimize the visuals for bigger HD screens.

I got mine today. Still don't know what to make of it. A lot of the interface and hardware seems half-baked... I was gonna use it as an HTPC-lite, but found out that it *still* doesn't have native Netflix, Hulu, and XBMC apps. Have to sideload from the browser which is a pain in the ass.

XBMC pa naman yung isa sa main reason ko dito. Btw since its android makaka laro din ba ng mga temple run? 4pics 1 word etc etc? Actually wala pa akong android device so i think this one ang bibilin ko. Pero mukang panget yata hardware reviews
